New Job!

Well, I’m pretty close at finishing the 2nd week at my new job. ^_^ I am working as... what is it that they call me? Hmm... well my role is to give Instructional Support. :D Not all sure what that means, but I am doing lots of research. We’re trying to set up a distance learning system and once that is underway I will be making sure to help everyone learn to use it, although I don’t see the museum getting all these toys until probably August 07, but for now we’re trying to write a pretty convincing paper so that we can get the money to do it.

And here I thought I’d never ever again would get to use statistics.

Anyway, my husband said I’ve landed the job I had been waiting for. I still get to work with art and artists every day, I work with computers, And I will learn to use all these cool software later on when I start trying the whole video and sound editing and such (there are plans of making a virtual tour of the new facilities for the museum as well as a book).

The work environment is very relaxed and as the executive director tells me all the time, “as you can see, we’re not formal here,” then she gets up, takes me to the middle of the main room, calls the rest of the staff and we begin doing ‘The Money Dance.’ Yeah... we celebrate every time we get money for the museum. :D

The place is one big family! They call each other mom and grandma and son and daughter and babies and... wow. We buy each other breakfasts, we make each other lunches, we celebrate everyone’s birthdays, we teach us new techniques for acrylics, inks, pastels, photography... oh yes, we work from time-to-time too. :p jk jk. I’m having fun... and they let me make up any hours I may miss (due to the classes that I take at the Art League) at my home!

I knew they were a pretty tight bunch ever since I joined the Art League but now I see they are even closer! They babysit for one another - house, pets, light bills... They all seem to have been together for a good while and everyone there has worked before for the girl scouts, galleries, zoo, and all these other non-profit organizations. It’s my place! I have always been doing volunteering jobs (I’ve lend my services at the literacy center teaching adults, a couple of libraries, one of the local elementaries as a technician for their computer labs) and as I talk to my co-workers I see how much we have in common!

... except the vegetarianism. Hehehe.

I am pretty happy right now and also extremely busy. I hadn’t read so many papers (statistical, geographical, and technical) since I was in grad school like 8 years ago! Now I hope I haven’t forgotten how to write papers.
