Weekend

I had a nice 3-day weekend with Husband. Saturday we got invited to L Family’s house for a nice cookout dinner. All the kids were there - the kids, by the way are all graduates who work and help their parents, a very nice family - and they made some very nice-smelling chicken, fajitas, ribs, and other BBQ goodies. I stuffed myself with homemade Spanish rice, potato salad and beans. Hubby got down and dirty with the meat goods. Mmm-mmm. The boys generally do all the grill cooking, while the girls (two sisters and close friends of mine) do the side dishes. When we go there it’s one big family and we all share in the preparations. It is a very nice environment and I really like my friends’ parents; they make one feel very comfortable. :p it is also fun to see how the little ones are growing and now they bring their sweeties… and we get to poke fun of them afterwards because they are soooo whipped. :p

Sunday we returned the favor inviting the Ls to our house to have dinner and then go to the golf shooting range. We ladies had pretty good fun missing the golf balls while the boys showed off their strong arms. We didn’t stay out until very late, just till around 10:30pm or so because they live outside city limits of the neighboring city.

On Monday we invited other friends over to the house, one of Hubby’s co-workers, his wife and their little baby. We had home-made Chinese and talked for a good while, regarding a trip that they had just arrived from - we took care of their doggie for a couple of days while they were gone. They left early because the baby had to take her nap. The rest of the day I did some laundry and then watched TV.

Oh yes! Husband surprised me by getting me a TV for the bedroom, a Dell 19-inch LCD. It is a perfect size for the bedroom and since it is flat it looks nice against the wall. Check it at the Dell web site. The price at the web site varies from month-to-month depending on specials, but Hubby will be doing monthly payments which will be around 18 bucks. Quite nice. The TV arrived Thursday so we’ve pretty much tried it for a good number of days now. It’s no plasma, but with High Def programming from our satellite the picture quality is pretty good.

Hugs

I was in a house that resembled my Grandmother’s in the colors, size, and the way that the curtains let all the light into the living room... but the furniture was different and placed in opposite sides from where she usually has it.

But I guess it was her house. I remember standing in the kitchen and looking across the serving bar and staring a several people. “Hola!” they said and I walked to the living area. Suddenly I was next to a big man, who may have been one of my uncles (by marriage). I have not seen many of my relatives for years so I only have hazy images of them in my head from when they were sort of young. I am guessing they haven’t changed much, except from the age and weight.

I remember feeling a little out-of-place especially when he reached for me and pulled me to him. He began to give me a big bear hug and I was almost seated on his lap since he had not gotten up from the sofa. I felt his warm cheek against mine and his big arms all around me, squeezing tightly. He was laughing openly and kept squeezing and wobbling around while giving me that hug. I guess I felt a cat does when a toddler tries to hold it all uncomfortably.

Then there was nothing more. My dream continued in black and I finally woke up when husband was off to work.

Strange dream.

I felt uncomfortable while having it. I suppose it was the hug.

I do not like hugs. Never have. They feel strange... awkward and distant. Fake. I suppose it has to do with things that happened to me as a child. It is because of this that I hardly ever hug people. I do not like to snuggle either... reminds me too much of hugs. Sure, I see a friend and I go and pat him or her on the back while pretending to give a kiss on the cheek by simply pressing cheek-by-cheek; that’s a sort of hug, right?

I hug my mom, loosely. I don’t really hug my sister, she’s so small and thin that I feel like I will break her. Dad, I don’t hug him at all; a kiss on the cheek yeah but that’s all. I love my immediate family and we are close, but I just don’t hug them much. Kisses are better.

Kisses I will do, pseudo kisses even more (those cheek hovering ones).

But only to people I know.

Hugs... *shudders* They suffocate.

Slippers

Grandma gave me these over the weekend:

Knitted or Crocheted Shoes

I am not sure if they are knitted or crocheted (didn't ask) but they are very comfy and cute. ^_^ They seem to be made in 2 stages. The sole and then the top, and finally they were joined (stitched together?) to make the shoe. The button was put on last in that nice baby blue color.

I like 'em.

Just Perfect

I got to go to a Home Interior's party with a couple of my friends and their mom. I've known them since years ago and their mom treats me like her daughter too. It's awesome.

Well anyway, I was dropping off Husband at home (because it was a girl thing, no guys allowed) and I was checking my lipstick and make-up and all that.

"How's the lipstick. Is not crooked right?" I asked because I was running late and had dabbed on the thing while driving.

Husband looked at me and said, "It's fine."

Then I asked about my hair, "Hm. Yeah. it's good too."

And then my makeup, particularly the eye mascara because it was sooooo darn hot this weekend and I was concerned that it may have rubbed off under my eyes, "Nope, it's there, intact."

And then I decided to give a turn on my questions, "And my eye wrinkles?" I asked.

Without even looking at me he simply said, "They are intact too."

>_<

. . .

On a lighter note... I won 2 prizes. A set of candle holders that match wonderfully with my new furniture (golden tones) and a Christmas tree top star, which I will... erm... use for something at some point (I generally don't put up a tree).

Lead on Lipsticks

got this in my e-mail from a friend... heh. And my Sis and I had just discussed changing to Clinique... guess not anymore!

--------------------------

Even lipstick isn't safe anymore...what's next?

Brands don't mean everything. Recently a brand called "Red Earth" decreased their prices from $67 to $9.90. It contained lead. Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.

The Brands which contain lead are:

1. CHRISTIAN DIOR
2. LANCOME
3. CLINIQUE
4. Y.S.L
5. ESTEE LAUDER
6. SHISEIDO
7. RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
8. CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
9. MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.

The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer. After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick contained the most amount of lead. Watch out for those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer. If your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead.

Here is a test you can do yourself:

1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick color changes to black, then you know the lipstick contains lead.

Please send this information to all your girlfriends, wives and female family members.

This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dioxin Carcinogens causes cancer. Especially breast cancer.

Dance

Okay, so you have probably already seen this video. I saw it the first time about 3 months ago but I am sure it has been going around the WWW for longer than that. anyway, I stumbled across it again today:

http://video.craveonline.com/video/index.php?showVideo=945

You may have seen it with different titles. Anyway... I just gotta say...

There is no way this is retarded music!!! (that's what the roomate calls it)

Before the cockyness of doing his Planet of the Apes remake and the action-packed Italian Job, Mark Wahlberg was the baggy pants, underwear showing, ribbed abs, bad-ass punk better known as Marky Mark!

And he had some nice music (although, the videos of him and his dancers doing pushups on the wet asphalt were much better).

:D Enjoy.

Tablecloth

Eyes are all better now. Yeash!

Parents came back home Sunday evening and my Sis came back with them. Took a quick 2-week vacation and is now here until next week. We celebrated Mother’s Day on Tuesday the 10th and other than that it has been a pretty slow week.

I did go to downtown and bought some nice, thick fabric to make a tablecloth. My Grandmother has been lending me her over machine to get this project finished. I had never used one of those before... wow. Overs are such time savers! With my regular sewing machine I would have to fold the edges twice to prevent the edges of the material from fraying, but with the over it is a one-pass deal! It cuts and stitches. Very, very nice.

Now I need to work on beautifying the edges with some and finalize the tablecloth with some pretty fringe trim. Something in gold in the following style: http://www.mjtrim.com/catalog/family.aspx?family=07%3a07

I need around 250 inches... and at $11.98 a yard (36 inches), I think I’m gonna be broke after this.

Ouch My Eyes

Saturday was pretty much a lazy day. We were quite tired and sleepy - we attribute it to the very cloudy weather. We let Tushi inside the house for her daily play with Chico and we just stared at them, laughing at their sparring. Pets are such great companions.

At around 2 we finally left and went to eat some Mexican and then headed over to my Mom’s house to feed Leche - Parents decided to go to my Sister’s for the weekend and will celebrate both Mother’s Day days with her (while in the US Mother’s Day is today, in Mexico it is on the 10th). Then watched TV at her house (‘cause she’s got cool cable channels!), went grocery shopping and then accompanied Husband to the golf range. I didn’t play because I am letting a little soreness under my little finger get harder. I want to get a callous from the golf club, but not painful blisters. I read while he played and called Grandma to see if she wanted to go have some breakfast with us today to celebrate the special day. She wasn’t sure ‘cause she was busy. So we may just pass by and give her some flowers instead.

My eyes have been hurting since Friday night. I rubbed much too harshly at my eyes when I was taking off my mascara and I tore my right lid at different spots. Nothing super horrendous, it is as if I had scratched a mosquito bite and peeled off the top layer of skin, but since it is at the eye it feels quite uncomfortable. Soooo before going to bed I put some ointment on them so keep them from itching and went to bed. Yesterday, Saturday, I did the same thing before putting on my make up (no mascara, just powder this time) and went about my day as I described above. Well, all day my eyes were watery and itchy but I figured it was because of last night.

Before going to bed I cleaned my face, put on my creams and then added more ointment on my lids and went to bed - this is pure vitamin E that I use to get rid of my wrinkles, works wonders. I woke up a couple of hours later and my eyes were itching madly. So I hurried to the bathroom and checked them. I noticed a lot of that boogery stuff that sometimes forms at the lacrimal, but this was all over my lashes and some had gotten inside my eyes. As I understand, these ‘eye boogers’ are protein residuals that are expelled from the eyes during their natural daily cleaning and if for some reason the pores (specially where the lashes grow) are blocked that the residuals won’t be taken out properly forming painful clogs under the upper or bottom lids (or sometimes fatty deposits that harden with time, etc, etc). My eye doctor explained this to me because I have one of those fatty deposits or ocular cyst under my left eye. It feels like a little hard bead, but does not hurt at all, to me it just looks ugly - the bulky little thing. Supposedly with warm water compressions it should melt away, but I’ve been doing that for 3 years now and nothing. The only other way is to remove it surgically but... erm... nah. I also have to rub some of that solution to clean contact lenses over my lids and lashes (to also remove exces protein deposits that may be clogging my pores there).

Anyway, so I am watching all these boogers over my eyes and I begin to rinse with slightly warm water. I mean, my eyes were puffy... puffy as in my top lids basically folded over my eyelashes... and I have long, straight eyelashes! I scoop water into my hands and then press them to my eyes, opening them up to let the water flush them as well. I did this for like five minutes. I don’t know why I did not realize what I was doing earlier! I mean, I know this stuff! I know that every night I wash to help my eyes to Get Rid of excess protein but here I go and I actually DAB ON more raw protein-ish stuff directly on my lids and the tiny holes where my lashes grow. I totally clogged them up. DU’H!!!

I went back to bed and kept a moist towel over my eyes. Right now my lids are back to normal, I can see my lashes again but eyes still feel irritated so I am making some chamomille tea to put on my eyes. Chamomille is what my mom would put on me when I had eye infections and that always worked nicely. So I’ll keep the eye make up off for a couple of days.

Hm... Well at least I got one good thing out of this. ^_^ Puffy eyes make eye-wrinkles disappear TOTALLY!

HAHAHA!

Charming

I just realized an advantage of Golf over other ‘exercise’ routines - I can be pretty while golfing!

We went out with my Parents and Grandma last night to Tony Roma’s - Famous for Ribs. I didn’t eat anything but some battered onions and a potato soup because everything else is all meaty stuff, but it was alright. I had a nice dinner regardless and even though I got filled up on those two items, I didn’t feel ‘full to the brim.’ Nice.

Hubby said that he wanted to go ‘shoot’ and then made a little arm motion as if holding a club, “You know to bring down the food before going to bed” and then asked Dad if he wanted to come along as well. Mom and Grandma were like ‘ugggghhh’ but this time I actually agreed.

The practice place closes till 11:00 pm and I was feeling a bit guilty from all the onion rings. So we told them that we’d be there if they wanted to stop by. After Hubby had rented a bucket of balls and I was setting up the tees, my Parents and Grandma arrived - I guess Dad convinced them. So we began to practice. After some time of seeing my Dad miss the balls or shooting oddly, my Mom jumps in and said she wanted to try... Mom being an athlete can only stay sitting down for brief moments. The little competition worm was biting at her to give it a try and see if she could do better. She did. Hehehe. But Dad got better once he got the hang of how the whole flow goes. Being stronger he actually was doing nice distances. My Hubby is a lot more accurate now as well and his hitting mean is 150 yards. I am still as before, but I just hit nicer and have a better form. Grandma watched and made fun of us when we'd miss. :p

So I am beginning to like this more. You get to be standing or walking, stretch your body quite well and actually work out a soreness for the next day! Right now I feel all those muscles worked, from my triceps to the ones on my back, shoulders, neck, my sides and my thighs too! Plus I was wearing my heels and my make-up and my pretty clothes and I felt girly and not embarrased of having someone that knows us suddenly find us and see me all ‘bleh’ as it happens when I do any other type of exercise.

Yeah, it won’t be the same thing as a cardio session, of course... but when the only exercise I have done for the past 3 years has been from my car to the supermarket, then this is calorie-burning heaven for me. I have piled up too many pounds over my skinny legs that aerobics simply isn’t for me. Even brisk walking is very painful after a mile. But this is nice. I’ll skip the heels next time, definitely, but it’s good to know that heels are a possibility (I like to wear those thick heeled boots, for more balance and better support to my short frame) in case of emergencies. :p

hehehe. I likey me high heels. ^_^

Oh yeah! And... I play better lefty. O_o Go figure!

bleh

The soreness lasted for one day. Guess that’s good. ^_^ Monday we didn’t go to play golf because it is WWE RAW night. Hubby doesn’t miss his Monday wrestling show. Smackdown he may, but not Raw.

Tuesday we went to play again - my swings are getting nicer. Better motion, nicer form all that stuff. Husband is as well; he didn’t use as many tees as the first 2 days. We went over to my mom’s afterwards and had dinner with her - or rather, made her cook hehehe. She always knows how to make a nice meal in 30 mins flat. So my Dad and Hubby were talking yadda-yadda and now Dad wants to start practicing golf too. ~_~

So now Wednesday comes - It poured down here. We basically had rain all during the night and Wednesday morning. So when Husband came inside the door saying he wanted to go to the golf place (without even giving me a kiss first, mind you!) I of course said No. It had rained all morning... the place was probably going to be all muddy and icky and yuk. With the dry ground he still messes up his clothes, I could just imagine how it would be with the muddy ground.

As much as he begged and said he’d be careful I said no. That’s one thing I simply cannot stand... Muddy shoes and clothes. Well after our dinner he got a call from my Dad and then Hubby runs out to the living room where I was reading and he says, “Let’s go!”

“Where to?”

“Dad wants to play golf.”

>_< Uyyy that got me sooo mad. “What? No way. I don’t want to get dirty.”

“Mom’s going too! She said she wants to play.”

I didn’t quite believe that, since the only thing my Mom really likes to do is run. But alright. We drove to pick up my Mom - ‘cause Dad was going straight over there. When I got to her house I found out that she had not wanted to go but that Dad said that We wanted her to go. Yadda yadda.

~_~

*sigh* Men. So finally we drive to the golf place and there’s one guy there shooting some balls and another leaving, smacking his shoes on the floor to get the chunks of mud out of them. (See, there is grass, but this is a practice range, so all the place where you stand to shoot have little grass from all us beginners that generally just hit the ground). The guy said that it was closed.

Husband seemed appalled! He rushed to the office and saw it closed, then even gave a call to the guy that takes care of the place to ask how he could get some golf balls to play. “But how come there are others playing?” he said. After a bit more he closed his phone and looked at me all pouty, “He said that because of rain he had to close and that there shouldn’t be anyone playing... but... but how come he’s playing!”

Hehehehe. “See?! I TOLD YOU!” Mom was simply laughing. So fine, the guys’ hopes shattered, Mom said she wanted to go walk at least. And so... off to the nearest High School track we went.

Golf

I’m sore!!!

This past Saturday Husband and I got together at a golf area with several of his co-workers and we learned some basics of golfing... mainly how to grab the club. :p

Husband did pretty good, he was shooting 150-200 yards... I got lucky if I even made it to 25 feet. Hehe. Well all was nice and then at around 3 am he gets up and tells me... “Let’s go buy some golf equipment.”

Ayayay.

We went to Wal-Mart and while we were at it bought some groceries. We couldn’t find any clubs in our Wal-Mart so we had customer service phone to the other stores and the only one that had them was the one in Harlingen, but that one was too far to go at that time... plus I was sleepy.

Sunday after breakfast we drove to Harlingen and bought a number 9 and a 10 plus some tees. I’ve no idea what the numbers are for, but I noticed that the bigger the number, the wider the head of the club. Apparently that is so that your ball will fly farther, or something. So fine, clubs in hand, Husband took me to the practice place again and rented some balls.

You’d think that golf is not really an exercise... well, tell that to your arms and shoulders! You do some nice twisting work. ^_^
